Located east of Bayshore freeway on San Francisco Bay, a few minutes from downtown San Francisco, the 385,000-square-foot Emeryville Town Center project is a highly-articulated, cascading "village" of uses including outlet and value-oriented stores, specialty retail entertainment, restaurants, a multi-screen cinema and a mid-rise business hotel. Jerde's design of the retail district divides the site into two parts: the northern portion is dedicated to larger, value-oriented stores, clustered around an interior walking street with wide sidewalks, and bold architectural features; while the southern portion includes specialty retail and entertainment uses clustered around a three-level cascading plaza that fronts the street and San Francisco Bay. This stepped plaza brings spectacular views of the bay into the project and creates a distinct identity for the overall mixed-use development.
