The interior design concept for this new office presents a refreshing combination of Chinese and Western styles. The design features traditional Chinese elements based on modern Western design to make a truly special space. The building itself has a deep historical heritage, more than 100 years ago it was the first power plant built in Shanghai. Honoring the building's history, the design made sure to protect the integrity of the interior of the building during design and construction.

This historic office space newly updated with a contemporary flair is 7 meters high. There are many features that make this space unique, such as retaining the original structural frame of a series of historical buildings and carefully preserving the building's rich history. This special element provides a highly unique aesthetic to the entire office space which is integrating historic culture with a contemporary atmosphere.
The office space defines the "inside" and "outside" in detail so that the internal and external spaces are fluid and separated. The outside, i.e., the public space, is the focus of our placemaking. The large conference room, which we call the "stage" is designed in the center of the public space, and the floor is raised to create a sense of floating volume. These flex spaces including the main conference room and immediate area can expand to the presentation stage. It becomes a place for the firm to meet with friends from the design community, a place for the external exchange of ideas.
Considering how the office environment will be interpreted in the post-epidemic era, we brought our thinking into the practice of this project. Three openable windows were added throughout the office space using glass curtain walls to maintain ventilation. The building's existing fresh air unit, which treats the air vents, incorporates a HEPA air filter to purify the indoor air. Air purification workstations, using robots to clean the air in every corner of the office space without interruption.
The glass in all three conference rooms in the space is made of an acoustic storable glass unit system. The glass partition of the main conference room opens to form a public lectern, providing a venue for employee interaction within the company and facilitating the organization of interactive activities with the outside world. The lighting all uses LED energy-saving chips, and the public area lighting is programmed and controlled to change the intensity of illumination according to the time of day and the intensity of light, providing a power-saving effect. The carpets are selected from LEED's excellent performance of carbon-neutral, adhesive-free environmental carpets. It absorbs sound and reduces noise while reducing the emission of toxic substances in the room.
The indoor environment is controlled by temperature and humidity sensing, CO2/TVOC/PM2.5 sensing, and human body sensing to control the air conditioning power and illumination in public spaces and conference rooms. The electric load of lamps and sockets is monitored in real-time, and the information of employee density is used to accumulate energy consumption data of the whole office space, analyze and optimize energy-saving strategies regularly.
In response to the situation of epidemic control, sufficient storage space is reserved in the logistic space for the owner to equip the staff with necessary and emergency supplies, so that the staff can work without worries. The tables in the meeting room can be folded and stored, and employees can use the meeting room to arrange temporary air beds to rest.
